Erik D. Curren was born in Chicago in 1965. He received a Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Irvine and has published articles on the American novel. He has taught in the United States, the Czech Republic, and in India. For the last ten years he has served as a communications and political consultant to such organizations as the State of California, Wells Fargo Bank, and the Natural Resources Defense Council. During that period he has also practiced and studied Buddhism in the Zen and Tibetan traditions.
